This silicone menstrual cup is a plastic-free and reusable alternative to the disposable feminine hygeine options. It is easy on your body and great for the environment! When inserted, it collects rather than absorbs and can last up to 12 hours making it last longer than the average tampon. This cup is made from medical grade and body safe silicone. It is definitely a change of pace but surely worthwhile and can save you money and lots of waste over time.
Inserting the cup: Start by washing your hands and the cup. Hold the cup and press the 'X' sides to fold in half then fold in again so that the rim makes a 'C' shape. Gently insert the cup (rim first) into the vagina slightly angled towards the tail bone. Whenever it feels secure and comfortable, release the rim to allow the cup to open fully inside. The stem will hang below and will be there to help you remove it later.
Wearing the cup: These cups are generally changed 2-4 times a day. For the first week you may want to check and empty your cup every couple of hours to have a better idea about your flow. Can you still use this in public? Of course! While in the stall, simply remove the cup and pour the contents into the toilet then use toilet paper to wipe the cup and reinsert.
Removing the cup: Wash your hands and the cup with soap and water. Gently pull on the stem then squeeze the base of the cup between your thumb and forefinger to break the seal and slowly remove it. Be sure to have steady hands so to not spill the contents. Empty the contents into the toilet then rinse the cup.
Cleaning and Care Instructions:
Wash your silicone cup before and after each use with a mild soap and water (unless you are in a public bathroom). When your cycle is finished, wash and dry the cup then store it in the fabric bag provided. The menstrual cup should not be stored in a plastic bag or airtight container. It is totally normal for your cup to experience discoloration but this will not impair its ability to function properly.
There are two small holes near the opening of the cup which should always be kept clean but never use sharp objects to clean the holes as this may also cause damage. To clean these holes, simply submerge the cup in water and squeeze the water out through the holes. To disinfect further, you can boil the menstrual cup in an open pot for up to 5 minutes but please keep in mind that prolonged boiling may cause damage.
